Tony gets credit for the name. On a weekend get-away to Hannibal MO we spent hours in the car discussing what culminated in starting an organization called the Institute for R.E.A.L.I.T.Y. This is really the natural outgrowth of our combined life experience. Between the two of us we've been educated in a variety of ways: public, private, parochial and home schools over the years. We both graduated with university degrees (in computer hardware tech and education respectively) and then began to really learn! The years since then have been spent in much research and study of educational philosophies and methods throughout history and civilizations. Our ideas are not entirely our own; they have been gleaned from the great thinkers and teachers of all time, and from some of the not-so-great.
Our goal in the establishment of this institute is to help parents to educate themselves and educate their children. Our goal is not to win you over to our perspective or philosophy entirely; but to expose you to new ideas, just like we do our children, and to let you work out the rest in your family. I hope that what we print will be an encouragement to all families everywhere who undertake the great task of teaching their own.
